The funeral of Elizabeth C. “Betsy” Fliege

Elizabeth C. “Betsy” Fliege, 83, a lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away at 3:00 pm Monday, June 17, 2024 at Concordia Village Care Center.

Betsy was born June 25. 1940 the daughter of William E. and Elizabeth C. (Schimanski) Fliege.

Betsy graduated from Trinity Lutheran Grade School in 1954 and then from Lanphier High School, Class of 1958. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a dedicated member of the church choir.

Betsy began her professional career with Sangamo Electric and then worked for Novenco. She retired from Teachers Retirement Systems of Illinois. She enjoyed gatherings of friends and family and especially looked forward to the annual Fliege-Kochman reunion. She was instrumental in the planning of the reunions of the Lanphier Class of 1958.

Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: William Jr, Edwin Sr., Arthur, Richard, and Walther “Herk”, her sister Dorothy, two nephews; Danny and Tommy Wellenreiter and two great nephews; Drew Luedtke and Teddy Lazar.

Surviving are her four siblings: Stuart (Judy), Fred (Becky) Tim (Laura) all of Springfield, and Linda (Dan) Wellenreiter of Danvers, IL. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law: Helen Fliege of Lincoln, NE, Paula Fliege of Havana, IL, and Jeanne Fliege of Springfield. She has several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church LCMS, 220 S. 2nd St. Springfield, IL 62701 on Monday, June 24, 2024 at 10:30 am. Rev. Paul Hemenway will officiate. The family will greet friends beginning at 9:00 am at the church. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, IL.
