Florence was born on October 26, 1935, in Springfield, the daughter of Frederick and Lydia (Haseley) Kutzora. She married Rodman Matheny Jr. on September 6, 1991. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1995.
Florence was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was involved for a long time with the Ladies Aid ministry at Trinity. She served many roles with Ladies Aid including President, and she attended several LWML conferences over the years.
Florence worked for the State of Illinois Comptroller’s Office and later in the finance department at Sangamon State University, totaling over 35 years of public service. After her retirement she remained very busy. She volunteered for the Illinois State Annuitants Society, joined a golf league, and traveled extensively. One of her favorite experiences was being able to attend the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany in 2000.
Florence was also preceded in death by her parents; and her brother-in-law Jim Panesci.
She is survived by her dear sister, Ruth Panesci of Chambersburg, PA; her three nieces, Jane Thompson of Fort Mill, SC, Annette Grzybinski of Bedford, NH, and Ellen Roper of Reston, VA; and five great nieces and nephews, Sarah, Rachel, Mark, Ely, and Lauren.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 220 South 2nd Street, Springfield. A Funeral Ceremony will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Sharpe officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
